At the beginning of 2025, the Baltic states successfully disconnected their power grids from the BRELL network and synchronized with Europe. To commemorate this significant event, all three countries released a special stamp on the same day, and I had the honor of creating the concept and design for it.
The idea is simple, even literal—symbolic synchronization. When placed together, the stamps from all three countries form a unified visual connection. The design is based on a creatively interpreted electrical circuit diagram, but instead of traditional switches, resistors, and coils, we see symbols representing our fundamental needs that a safer power grid ensures: communication, light, and warmth. The diagram also illustrates electrified, positive emotions and highlights that in the Baltics, we don't just consume energy—we produce it, emphasizing each country's potential in this field.
The silver background of the stamps symbolizes infrastructure and technology, while the blue color represents energy, security, and Europe. Additionally, under UV light, the diagram glows in a dynamic neon tone, adding another layer of symbolism to this historic event filled with vibrant energy.
The first-day covers and the stamps on them also seamlessly connect into a synchronized circuit—just like the Baltic power grids with Europe.
An interesting experience—looks like I might be the first Latvian to have designed stamps for both Estonia and Lithuania. :)
